This scholarship program is part of Orsted’s pledge to help Taiwan build its offshore wind energy expertise, and to support Taiwan’s energy transition goals. Established in 2019, the program aims to inspire, encourage, and support young talents in Taiwan to expand their knowledge and expertise in offshore wind energy, and pursue future career opportunities in this new sector.

The value of Ørsted’s Taiwan Green Energy Scholarship Program for a single awardee is the largest in the Taiwan offshore wind industry. In total, eight (8) candidates will be awarded with scholarship funding: NT$ 350,000 for Ph.D. student; NT$300,000 for graduate student; NT$ 250,000 for undergraduate student. In addition, the best research topic within the awarded scholarships receives a further NT$ 50,000.

The scholarship review committee consists of representatives from  Ørsted Taiwan, the Trade Council of Denmark, Taipei (TCD Taipei), and an independent academic or industry expert.  The selection criteria include academic merit, English proficiency, leadership potential, and potential in the offshore wind industry.

Matthias Bausenwein, President of Ørsted Asia Pacific and Chairman of Ørsted Taiwan, says, “We have been very impressed by the dedication and high potential of the young talents who have applied for scholarships in 2019. It is very rewarding to see enthusiastic students gradually grow to become the backbones of the renewable energy sector. We look forward to more young students joining us on this exciting journey of creating a greener future for Taiwan and a world that runs entirely on green energy.”

In line with Orsted’s commitment to local talent cultivation, 50% of the scholarships are prioritized for Changhua citizens and descendants of Changhua fishermen.
